The harris project
A few weeks ago, Mr. Rein got up in front of the school at assembly and delivered some incredibly difficult news - We learned that Ms. Harris has breast cancer.
For some of us, Ms. Harris is not only a teacher, but also a mentor and a friend. For others - she is just a name. But what is behind her name? -- It's literally impossible for you to attend collegiate without being involved or attending events like Doughnut Delight, pep rally, movie night or all of our fantastic dances. Any one of these events has the personal touch and flair of Ms. Harris. It's her positivity, her generous spirit and her talent that is present from the very beginning of the creation of these things all the way through to the execution of each dance and each early doughnut morning.
Not only does she fuel the production of some amazing school traditions, but she is a vital part of Collegiate on a day to day basis. She organizes all those grade-wide field trip days - bringing in great speakers, figuring out the perfect locations and activities for us. She puts together all the assembly presentations and gets people like the World's Most Enthusiastic Art Historian to come talk to us. She is always willing to talk to you if you need something or help you with anything under the sun or even just offer you a smile. Those of you who do know Ms. Harris - when have you EVER seen her without a smile on her face?
She does so much for us, without asking for anything in return. So what we really want to tell you about is something we are doing in honor of her - The Harris Project. The students in Ms. Harris's Senior Seminar section have been working closely with a group of students working with the Race for the Cure. For the past five years Collegiate has had the biggest high school team in the city for this race, but we can do better. The Harris Project is a push to get every single student and faculty member to sign up for the Race for the Cure in some way - whether is running, walking or sleeping in. No excuses! We want to have 100% sign up rate for our school and I know we can do it.
Ms. Harris has done so much for us. Let's show how much we care about her and about every person we know and love who has been affected by breast cancer. Sign up for the Race for the Cure and remember to always to stay Positively Pink.
